i have tried various other virtual desktops, and i have found that they do not have the level of separation that i need. so i had to move back to what i was using before with its awkward switching and occasional failures that i could not figure out and resume trying to figure out how to set up the virtual desktop scheme i have envisioned. the things i need to do:
1. figure out how to automatically launch a VNC/RFB based virtual X11 frame buffer server for each virtual desktop, hopefully with automatic user login (when root starts the whole scheme) and automatic initial programs to run. maybe TightVNC. i need to figure out how to start unity under this.
2. develop the VNC/RFB multiplexer that will do switching among the various host/port combinations configured to various buttons.
3. find the ideal VNC/RFB client. maybe remmina.
any suggestions?
