I'm doing a new install from a USB drive onto a barely-adequate PC (2 core 2Ghz CPU, 3GB RAM).

Things were moving along nicely until it reached the "Configuring update-notifier-common" stage. The cursor is showing a "busy" status, but there is no sign of progress. I found a similar issue here which has been answered:

Unfortunately that was an upgrade and the solutions posted do not apply to a clean install.

I'm going to give it a couple of hours and then reboot. I'm afraid I'll have to start from scratch though.

Any ideas?

AHA! Patience was rewarded - it completed a few minutes after my post. I used the "overwrite empty disk space" option and I suspect that's what it was doing. It appeared to be stuck for over an hour.
