New to this and the downloads for the install keep coming back as "Error"? (Is what I'm grabbing designed for dual use with "Windows only" and designed to be based from a Windows computer?) Finding I am really enjoying Linux and all the tuning and successes I'm having with Ubuntu...........wanting to have Slax on a USB drive. Appreciate any help and will help out around here as I grow into this. Thanks

Thread moved to Slackware and derivatives.

Slax has nothing whatever to do with Ubuntu, sorry. Try this (http://www.pendrivelinux.com/all-in-one-usb-slaxzip/). You could also try posting on the Slax forum here (http://old.slax.org/forum.php).

No idea about any of the following.

You make no mention and provide no link to whatever it is you're grabbing.

You may want to change your title as it doesn't reflect your question which is really 'How do I install Slax to a USB drive with persistence?'. Edit first post and 'Go Advanced' or I can change it for you as it may improve your chances as UUI is not the only way of doing a persistence install to USB, at least not for a persistence install of Ubuntu (no expert on that but watched plenty of others here doing it).

Incidentally, the version of UUI you are trying to install is from here (http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/)? UUI is for Windows, at least that's an .exe Win file for download there. That definitely won't run on Ubuntu. Having said that, it can definitely do what you want it to (as Slax is one of UUI's supported distros if you care to hunt down that info).

(PS: While you are trying to do this with Ubuntu, how Slax works and how it is installed to a USB has nothing to do with Ubuntu. That is a Slax idiosyncracy and may or may not bear any relation to how you would do it with Ubuntu. You have a better chance of more specific help here from Slax or Slackware users who may have some idea. Good luck.)

Thank you so much. Your advise was "all" appreciated and looking forward to success and yes, that was the version that generated the error. (When trying to find info about downloading an installer (?).......sure is "Windows centric" out there and looking forward to getting it together enough to have the tools to function more decently with Linux in general.) Again Thanks!

You can't. You can download it easily enough but it won't run as it is designed specifically to run on windows and only windows. You can tell that by the '.exe' link on the download button. That means it will only run on windows. There are a number of other programs you can use on Linux to create a bootable usb.

Appreciate the education on that ".exe" link parameter being a Windows executable. Learning one mistake at a time. I'll just deal with getting only one small usb distro for now and not worry about setting up to sample more. Thanks All

If you're looking for a Linux program to create bootable USB drives from ISOs, take a look at mkusb (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/mkusb).

UNetbootin ...?

Learning one mistake at a time.

In the words of Mark Knopfler, "That's the way we do it." :)
