I have been offered a refurbished
Lenovo Yoga 500 15.6" Intel Core i5-5200U 8GB 1TB + 8GB SSHD NVIDIA GeForce GT 920M 2GB Touchscreen Convertible Windows 8.1 Laptop - A1/80N6003BUK.Can anyone tell me if it is possible to reformat the HDD on this machine and then install Ubuntu?

I've done this on several desktops with XP in but do not know anything about windows 8. (http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/refurbished-lenovo-yoga-500-15.6-intel-core-i5-5200u-8gb-1tb-8gb-ssd-nvi-a1-80n6003buk/version.asp#)
I need a 2 in 1 as I am disabled and cannot sit at a desk or have a laptop on my lap.

Many thanks for any help.
Richard.

It looks as if some users of that machine have had good luck and others less so, but without knowing exactly the specs of all the laptops mentioned it is difficult to know how you will get on.

Assuming it has Win8 on it still, and if the current users allows, why not try a live USB of the machine to see how it works out of the box; it may present you no difficulties at all but at least you will have an idea of how many problems you might face.
