Problem with kernel image update

Solution: I had not enough space on /boot partition.

I'm using Xubuntu 16 LTS up to date, but I guess this could be Ubuntu-general.
The very last update gave me crash reports after each login, related to the kernel image 4.0.something.
Every login I got these errors, so I did:

sudo apt-get remove
and it uninstalled old unused kernel images (I guess?)

Right now everything works fine again, and if I launch the update utility it says my system is updated... 0.o
Shouldn't it attempt to install those updates again? Sorry, quite lost here, I don't know much about apt-get, automatic updates always worked fine by themselves up to this point.

Are there any known problems with some recent updates regarding kernel images?
Is my system now "corrupted" and do I have to do something to fix it?

That seems to be the latest kernel version, so if everything is working fine I'd suggest leaving it be.

It happened again.
Today I booted the PC and upon login I got some errors again. I did "send report" just to read more information about these errors:

Out-of-space is one of the most common reasons for the problem you describe.

Oh, my bad, I now remember and realize that I have a separate boot partition due to the Ubuntu encryption. And that's only 250MB.
So I deleted old kernels and now it works.
