Qualcom Atheros AR9485 not working

Greetings all,
I cant get my Qualcom Atheros AR9485 card to work or come up in 16.04.1 server edition (no desktop installed). Using ifconfig -a it shows as wlp3s0 without an ip address. Here is the text of the 'wireless-info' script. I have since installed network manager but have down nothing with it as I dont know just how I want to manage it yet. The ethernet works fine but not physically located to be of use as router is in front room and lab is setup in back bedroom so wireless is a must. When I was installing I chose wireless (wlp3s0) and it worked fine which tells me card is supported. Have not been on ubuntu server since 12.04 or so and things have changed a little. I am using wpa2-psk(AES) on the router. Open to any hints, clues or just outright here the heck is what is wrong. Output is at http://paste.ubuntu.com/23231549/ if needed

Your interfaces file is missing auto wlp3s0 since you are not using network manager, you said you installed it but according to the information you posted it is not running. There is other strange output I believe it is because wireless-tools is not installed please install it and run the wireless script again.

More information for you. When i boot server, nine times out of ten I need to run "dhclient enp4s0" to be able to connect to internet and I get "failed to raise interfaces" when booting. Hope this helps.

More information. Running 'sudo dhclient wlps30' does nothing. Server just hangs with no return information. Maybe time out not reached but I do not know if a time out is involved or not

Server eventually timed out after running sudo dhclient wlp3s0. but ifconfig -a still shows no inet addresses

After I ran the first command wifi would not come up. I did not reboot after first command. Then I ran second command and installed rfkill and it installed fine. I get a message that stated 'ureadahead will be profiled on next reboot and I did not reboot as I did not know if I needed to. Then ran
rfkill list All and recieved 'bogus list arguement kill ALL'. If I need to reboot after
sudo dpkg-reconfigure resolvconf let me know and i will redo. Same goes for the ureadahead will be prfiled on next reboot message.

just tried to upgrade and found a new isc-dhcp-client package available and I installed it. Also when I ran ifconfig -a I noticed by enp4so that it states 'Linkencap:Ethernet and says the same thing for wlp3s0. Is the server somehow seeing my wifi or wlan as ethernet? I assumed it would say wifi or wlan but perhaps Im wrong.

Ok i ran
rfkill unblock all and then ran
sudo rfkill list all and result is now wireless lan soft blocked no and hard blocked no still no ip address with
ifconfig -a

Should there be a /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf file. When using
sudo nano /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf mine is either empty or I dont even have one.

I think I solved the issue but have a few questions. I ran
sudo nano /etc/network/interfaces and added wpa-ssid 'my network name' and then beneath that i typed in wpa-psk my network password. The I ran
ifconfig -a and I had a inet address for the wireless card wlp3s0 finally. Then I unplugged cable for ethernet (enp4s0) and shutdown and rebooted. When I was rebooting I saw to things that I need answers for, 1. I see a 'started network manager wait online' output. The next line down going through the boot process stated ' A start job is running for raise network interfaces (5min 5s). My questions are 1. should I delete network manager and will that get rid of 'started netwok manager wait online output. Why is the 'A start job is running for raise network interfaces (5min 5s) happening. I assume it is because network manager is installed but being in my 40 th hour of having any linux experience I dont know the answer. Would you use network manager of should I just stay with the scripts that bring up my wireless card. 3. What happens if I comment out the enp4s0 ethernet in /etc/network/interfaces. Will the wireless still be raised? I really need to get rid of the raise network interfaces (5min 5s) wait time as this is a pain to say the least. I think network manager is causing the wait time but not really sure. If you could answer all the questions I would greatly appreciate you doing so as I'm hoping to learn from your answers and also get rid of the blasted wait time.

In order to connect with wireless, you must state which network you wish to connect to and provide the password. This you have not done. Moreover, since this is a server, I recommend a static IP address so that you can easily ssh and ftp to it. I recommend that you amend your /etc/network/interfaces file to:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

#auto enp4s0
iface enp4s0 inet dhcp

auto wlp3s0
iface wlp3s0 inet static
address 192.168.1.150
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1
wpa-ssid <your_router>
wpa-psk <your_wpa_key>
dns-nameservers 8.8.8.8 192.168.1.1Be sure to select a static address outside the range used by the DHCP server in the router, switch or other access point. Of course, substitute your details here.

Get the system to read and use the changes:

Thank you all. I got the card working and have set it to static. Apparently I had to reserve a address on my router for the static ip and change entries on the cfcfg file for the card
