View Full Version : [ubuntu] Ubuntu 16.04 won't shut off USB when shut down

I just installed Ubuntu 16.01.1 on a Asus Z170A MB system.

The USB card reader doesn't shut off when the system shuts down. The red activity light remains on after the system is off. I'm told that the power normally remains on at USB ports even when the system is off, but this DOES shut off when this same machine runs ******* (from a different hard drive, mechanically switched).

The USB floppy continually seeks (clunking) when the system is on, unless I insert a disk and then it flashes the activity light at the same 2 ~ 3 second interval, but does shut off when the system shuts down. This alsol works fine on Windows 10 on the same machine (started from a separate, mechanically switched, hard drive).

The Asus MB has a strange BIOS, not sure if it's UEFI, BIOS, or hybrid. The instructions from Ubuntu when loading were unclear. I selected to enable third party drivers.

How can I fix this?

Thanks!
