Why does the "Low Battery" warning on my smoke alarm always start beeping in the middle of the night?

Because they also double as sleep detectors.

...because the temperature is a little lower at night and the battery chemistry is temperature dependent.

Because you don't safety check them every three months during the day time? We're told to check them every three or six months over here. Don't remember which.

Get the ones that are connected to the electricity supply if you can afford them and get a good night's sleep. Never check them or be woken by one again. :)

Buy a new battery, not a cheap one!
