Lubuntu 16.04 64-bit Install on Core-2 Duo Laptop Fails to Boot

I installing Lubuntu 16.04 64-bit on a Core-2 Duo laptop with 4 GB memory. After the install, whenever I boot, after the loader menu (selecting first item Ubuntu), it halts with:
