Top bar on desktop goes hidden

Hello, I know this wasn't like this before, just noticed recently.

On my desktop, the top task bar that has 'Applications, Places, Terminal Browser, Calendar etc.' if I click on the 'Click to view month calender' option on the task bar, the entire bar gets hidden never to come come not until I run terminal to reboot the system before it restores back on. please help me fix this
