I have a desktop that has both UB 14.04 and 16.04 on the same HD.

Everything worked fine for months, then yesterday I changed the vid card to a (common) GeForce 210 pci (which has worked fine previously in this machine), and now neither install will let me log in.

On bootup, I get some screen activity that suggests problems, then I get the login screen with my user id, when I enter the pw it fails and keeps asking me for the pw. I'm entering the right pw so something has gone wrong.

I expected to get in and have a low level vga screen until I could update the vid driver. I tried the install disk hoping to get an option short of a new install that would help, but I couldn't see anything helpful.

What do I do? I don't want to do re-installs because there are a few files in there I don't want to lose.

Hello!

Did you uninstall any proprietary driver you may have had installed prior to switching?
