So, I'm looking for a good, cheap laptop to run Ubuntu. I am learning to code and I need a cheap machine to run command line and Python.

$100-$200 is my budget. I've looking into Chromebooks, but it seems like they are a bitch to get Ubuntu installed on them.

I'm open to suggestions!

You can search for refurbished (second-hand) and maybe 'scratch and dent' but otherwise high class laptops, for example Dell, Fujitsu, Toshiba, HP, Lenovo. I browsed the internet for refurbished laptop usa and found some computers below $200.

Maybe I've been lucky but I've purchased a few off-lease business class notebooks off Ebay and haven't been bit yet. I'm willing to 'pop the top' if necessary though. By business class I'm referring to Thinkpads, Dell Latitude models, higher end HP's, machines that retailed for $700 and up new. I recently bought a Thinkpad X201 for a little over $100 including shipping. New it was well over $1000. If browsing Ebay, be sure to pay attention to what is or isn't included. For example, hard drives are generally not included, batteries and hard drive caddies may not be included. One place you may score is on machines labeled "for parts or repair" that only boot to the BIOS screen because there's no hard drive or O.S. install. I bought one of those, plugged in a live USB and it booted fine. If the purchase price is right with no hard drive, a 240 GB. SSD might be worked into the budget;).

Refurbished HP Pavilion.

I have tried Ubuntu on 6 different HP Pavillions, including my current steed the Pavilion x360. Ubuntu has worked on all of them.

Agreed. At the price point being mentioned, it's the best way to go. Just check the hardware and make sure you can access and change/upgrade hardware if needed.
