I started the upgrade with the GUI tool, seemed to go fine - then it switched to text mode, with an error about "blocked for more than 120 seconds".
I left it at that stage for about an hour, then reset the machine.
On coming back up it goes to text mode login, reporting itself as 16.04.1 LTS. Nothing visible on tty7 or up.
Login works fine, but network isn't up.
And the login message still suggests upgrading to 16.04.1 LTS by running do-release-upgrade, which tells me "No new release found".
