View Full Version : [lubuntu] No desktop notification when changing volume via keyboard

When I change volume level via keyboard multimedia keys the volume changes, however there is no notification that actually shows it, so if I don't listen to anything at that moment I have no idea how much the volume changed, which is annoying and I keep changing it constantly because I don't know how much I already changed it. I'd like a notification, a bar like when you change brightness for example.

There has been a bug report on this for years, first reported in 2012. It appears that nothing has been done since then:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lubuntu-meta/+bug/1005542

You could add to the report that it affects you.

4 years... yeah, Linux software has a great support from its own developers

Is there any workaround? Different software that works?

If you are willing to switch to a different Ubuntu "flavor" then you would have the notifications. As an example, I use Xubuntu, have a multimedia keyboard, and the dedicated volume up/down and mute keys show a volume level popup notification when used.

You could try installing xfce4-notifyd. It works in Lubuntu.
