Upgrade from 14.04 to 16.04 stuck on Microsoft fonts installation

I am trying to upgrade my PC from Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04 and everything was going well until it reached the Microsoft fonts where it has stopped and has been stopped for the last 30 minutes. Any idea of how to get the installation to continue?

Minimise any windows that you have open and look for a Microsoft License agreement dialogue box that you will need to agree to before continuing ?

Thanks for that. Went back to the computer to try this and all I can now see is a blank screen with a cursor on it, there are no icons or mouse - help!
