I am trying to upgrde my Netbook from 14.04.1LTS to 16.04.1LTS, using a flash drive with a live ISO installed. I boot from the flash drive and get the install part and the live 16.04.1 but the live version can not find the installed OS 14.04.1.

So what is wrong with 16.04.1, or the live version, or why is 16.04.1LTS available for a direct online upgrade like earlier versions????

Some help please.

Any day now the 14.04 LTS will get the 16.04 upgrade offer. Be careful -- what you describe doing may wipe your entire disk. Maybe the fix is finally in to stop offering a "reinstall" in such situations when the real offer is to "wipe disk and reinstall". The upgrade from a disk may be done by changing the software sources -- sofware updater has a settings button at the bottom left of the window, and you can add the CDROM to the upgrade sources. You may get an offer to add the CD to the list anyway when it is present and you are running.
