How are the ubuntu livecds created?

I wasn't exactly sure where to put this, so moderators, feel free to move it somewhere else.

Basically, i'd like to know how the ubuntu developers create the livecds. I'm helping to develop a new linux distro called kynix (kynix.net) and need to know how to create a livecd. i've found lots of stuff on customizing the livecd, but nothing about how it is created. does anybody here know how this is done?

we hope to have a beta out sometime in august. but if we can't figure out how to make a livcd it could take longer.

You mentioned you found a lot about customizing the liveCD, this would probably be easier than the way the devs do it.

Have you seen the UCK docs (http://lichota.net/%7Ekrzysiek/projects/ubuntu-livecd-customization/docs/building-script.html)?

I'm trying to learn how to do this myself, though I've been too strapped for time to get very far.

We don't want to customize the ubuntu cds. We aren't currently using ubuntu as our base, so that isn't at all suitable. I've seen both those tool, but neither is suitable for what we need.

since noone here seems to have any idea about this, who/where should i ask to find this out?

The live cd uses casper to create the image in a process much as prescriped in the debian live project i think. this is just my guess to it. http://live.debian.net/wiki/Home
