View Full Version : WIn7 wont load after installing Ubuntu 16.04LTS

Hi there,
After dealing with the installation of Ubuntu 16.04LTS, i finally installed it but now my Win7 does not load.

Theres a window where i can choose Ubuntu or Win7. When i choose Win7 it starts loading till it stops, always in the same spot(when the windows icon is being painted in the screen).
I ve read some post and i might have mixed the installations of both SO. Besides, when i had only Win7 i had 3 partitions(one reserved for the system, the common C and W, the one i made for Ubuntu). After installing Ubuntu it has partitioned into 7. It might give you any ideas.

Thanks for the time and the help!

Two things that should help us visualise what is going on here.

1. - See Boot-Repair in my signature below and follow the instruction in that to run the Boot-info-script, then post back here the pastebin link you get.
2. - From the live Ubuntu system (USB or DVD; it does not matter which) open gparted and get a screenshot of the disk partition layout simply by pressing Print-Screen key, then attach that screenshot to a reply to this thread, still using the live system, of course.

The information you posted isn't really helpful. The grub.cfg file shows entries for both Ubuntu and windows but more information is needed which is why it was suggested you run boot repair selecting the Create BootInfo Summary option and pasting a link to the output here. Many more details and will be much more likely someone can offer a solution.

Nothing obviously wrong.
But it says it cannot find Windows in sda2, but sda2 is shown a NTFS partition.

Most often related to Windows issues and you probably need chkdsk. Which you can only run from Windows.
If you have Windows repair flash drive then run chkdsk.

Grub only boots working Windows and if it needs chkdsk you cannot boot it. And Boot-Repair can only do minor repairs.
Boot-Repair may try to set chkdsk flag so on boot Windows runs chkdsk if you can get that far.

Otherwise you may need to temporarily reinstall a Windows boot loader and boot Windows using f8 to get into internal repair console that really is in sda1, which we hope is not also corrupted.

Best to use Windows to reinstall Windows boot loader to MBR, but grub can install a Windows type boot loader using advanced mode.
Fix Windows and then use Boot-Repair to reinstall grub to MBR.

I would like not to reinstall Win yet, i kinda lost my disks. I had a look at the results and it says that the Win loader is on sda2. Should it run from sda1 sda2?Should Win be split up in 3 partitions? I have two options for starting Win and none of them work.

Windows normally installs to a 100MB boot partition and another large NTFS main or c: drive partition.
The boot partition has boot flag and two of the three normal boot files. But it often gives you the change to boot into a repair console with f8 when booting, so you can fix main partition.
