New 16.04 install. Menus open glitchfully

When I click on the menu items at the top sometimes just the left 1/2 inch of the box (the left margin before the text area) )opens for a second and then disappears and then the whole box opens properly. Any idea why and how I can fix it?

I just realized that this happens on all menus such as when I open favorites and put the cursor on a folder I get the delay before the items in the folder open.

Graphics card and driver?
Have you fully updated already? If not do so, reboot and try again.

Not sure what your saying, or even what you are running . . Ubuntu, Xbuntu, Mate, Lubuntu??? Can you post of screen-grab link (like imgur for example).
