Hello everyone, I was wondering if there was a way to add a link or a desktop widget to the Ubuntu forums on my desktop

I would like to have it available and easy to access when I'm on my desktop kind of like a shortcut

Thanks so much for any help on this.

Yes it's probably possible. What Web browser would you like this shortcut to open Ubuntu Forums in?

Thanks for the reply Halogen, I use Google chrome as my default browser

I use Cairo dock and I'm sure there's a way to also add links to the forums there as well

I think I figured it out all I needed to do is drag the link from my Chrome bar and add it to my Cairo dock and it stacks the links I want for easy access simple but it works

If you want it on your desktop, you can copy Chrome's .desktop file and edit it to add
'http://ubuntuforums.org/' to the end of every "Exec=" line

gc has an option, open page you want > File > create application shortcuts..
Edit: it does open a 'strange' gc window though..

Not sure I follow you on this one would this add the link as a widget?

It would add the link as a link but details of how it gets handled depends on your desktop. I'm not familiar with Gnome so I don't know what exactly it would do.

gc = google-chrome
The option creates a .desktop(s) but the browser window is 'dedicated' to the chosen url & a bit worthless with limited means of navigation. Not sure why they offer it.

Oh I see I will look in to it, it's always good information to know. I like having the websites like the forums I visit multi times a day at my finger tips. I have also been stacking them up on Cairo dock it work pretty well. Thanks for the tips much appreciated

That seems to be a "web app". Limited "chrome" and limited options. Two links:

Thanks for the links Vasa1 I will check these links out, As of right know I'm using the Stacks for Cario dock and it seems to be working just fine

Twitter had a great desktop application called Tweet-deck which was awesome it would have been great if we had something like that for Ubuntu forums for the desktop.
