I’m building a gaming rig currently and have a copy of windows 7 that once installed should let me upgrade to 10, but due to budget constraints I won’t be able to purchase an M.2 chip until after Microsoft’s free upgrade deadline. What I’m going to have to do is install the os onto a hard drive I have currently and then clone it to the M.2. That part I think I can do but I’ve been running Ubuntu for several years and rather like it, so would it work to set up two partitions on the M.2 and clone Windows to the first partition and install Ubuntu on the second? Also, would I have to use a bootloader or could I let the motherboard bios do that job and just pick which os to boot into after startup?
