I've got this weird problem, I am running xfce, and when I open programs, the lettering is normal, and readable. But the menues and dialog boxes and window title bars are so small they are just smudges. I can't see any of the menu choices I imagine it's a simple fix. Here's a screenshot of what I'm dealing with. And yes, I tried changing hte resolution, it didn't help.

Have you tried changing Theme under Windows Manager in the Settings panel?

I would like to do that but I can't read any of the selections in the menu.

Assuming the entries are the same on Xubuntu as on Ubuntu Studio then Windows Manager is the 10th entry in the first section. Themes are the area it opens into. You can use up/down arrows or the mouse to select.

I have found quite often that changes in both here and in Appearance > Style (also worth trying, second menu item, opens on correct section) often don't get fully applied until you log out and back in again and things can start to look and act a bit weird if you are switching between a few trying to find one you like...

Take a look at http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/64361/change-xfce-theme-from-bash-script. That may help you make changes without the GUI.

In any case, knowing more about xfconf-query (http://docs.xfce.org/xfce/xfconf/xfconf-query) won't hurt ;)
