Hi folks,

Just freshly installed Ubuntu on my desktop computer, but the VLC player's sound is too soft when playing .mkv (AC3). It's the same whether I use my speakers or headphones.
The volume when I use Rythmbox or watch Youtube is ok though. Any help?

Thanks.

Have you considered it may actually depend on the video file you're playing? Its audio is often more compressed than a regular Hi-Fi mp3 you would be playing with the default Rythmbox.
VLC has also an independent volume control. You may want check to check that.
You can tick the option "Allow louder than 100%" if needed.
