Ubunty 16.04 crashes after some time

Hello all, i am new ubunty user, and i have a problem. My computer crash after some time, i dont know why. I use ubunty only for rails developing, and let's say after 15 minutes, when i click on button for search apps, i got pink color on my screen or some colors flickering around. What this can be, please help.

My machine is HP compaq 8710p

3.9 gb ram
Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T7500 @ 2.20GHz × 2
Quadro NVS 320M/PCIe/SSE2 graphic
And i am using x64 version OS

Also, i have flickering on external screen HP Pavilion 22xw

Have you try any other versions of Ubuntu besides 16.04 maybe a lighter distro will work better

In my opinion it doesn't need a lighter distro but proprietary drivers for that nvidia chip may help with the performance. The symptoms described in the OP points to graphical issues.
