Hello,

It's been a while since I've been on the forum (thanks a lot for getting me started) I recently installed new hard drives and set them up in a RAID5 configuration. The last known install I had was Ubuntu 14 desktop, but I've been installing updates for a while (not sure how many took).

Anyway, I can get to the splash screen to choose to start in Ubuntu, but now when I select Ubuntu, I get a black screen that just sits there, no action.

Let me know any information you need.

Oh, I forgot to mention that there was already an SSD installed that was running the Ubuntu version. I added hard drives in addition to this one.

I have tried clean installs of 16 and 15, but none have succeeded.

"None have succeeded" What happened?

When you added the hard drives, did you change the video? If so, you might need to use "nomodeset". There's info in the Community docs.

RAID5 with a RAID controller, using a motherboard feature, or other?
