upgrades not working

After the most recent software upgrades, some 160 Mb's , all seemed to be okay.
Now though when checking for further software upgrades as one does the upgrade windows comes on but it is blank & obviously nothing is happening.
I'm working with the latest version of Ubuntu.
Can anyone suggest what I should do next ?

Couldn't get a quick reply to you. My thread wasn't accepted. Another attempt !

The version I downloaded about a month ago was a new OS which came via a notification - I presume we all got notification of it. Perhaps it was Ubuntu 16 or something.

It's worked okay & still does except for the most recent check for software updates where as of today some improvement in that the software update window appears to be functioning but stalled or seized up while indicating that it's still downloading .

Proof of a seizure or a stall comes via download rates per second which can be observed from somewhere else & can be observed in real time so you can infer that something is not right.
