So I did something stupid with CCleaner in Windows 10 and now I can't boot into Windows. Is there a way I can install Ubuntu over everything but still keep some personal files on the HDD? I can access the HDD from within the Live CD (I'm using it right now) so I could backup files to an external HDD but my usb 3.0 ports are damaged so it would take quite a long time (500 GB or so).

I don't care about keeping anything Windows related since my laptop is physically falling apart. It's a Sony VAIO SVE14A27CXH.

Personally I'd just copy to the external drive, especially as it would appear that you have no backup anyway, but yes you could use gparted to create a partition on the laptop hard disk to copy your files into if you have sufficient space to do it.
