After the Friday the 13th upgrade I, like many others, lost internet connection. I have tried installing the recommended libnl-*.deb files but keep getting error messages like the one below:

dpkg:error processing archive libnl-3-200_3.2.21-1_i386.deb (--install): subprocess dpkg-deb --control return error exit status 2
dpkg-deb: error: libnl-3-200_3.2.21-1_i386.deb is not a debian format archive

The files were downloaded from packages.ubuntu.com so I'm at a loss. Nor do I understand why the defective packages that led to the problem were downloaded in the first place because pre-release updates (trusty proposed) was unchecked at the time. Where am I going wrong? I'll admit that I'm a noobie at this. I've only just learned how to open the terminal in the correct folder.
