Hello
I understand that kernel 4.2 supports hot patching (without requiring you to reboot the machine).
However, Ubuntu still keeps asking me to reboot.
Is there any configuration / setting which enables / disables this?
I run a home server and would like to avoid rebooting but still want to keep up with updates / patches.

I am not sure if that feature is enabled at the moment. I do not know of any setting that would enable it. But there is another fly in the ointment. The Ubuntu init system is now systemd and I think that it is updates to systemd that are prompting a restart more than upgrades to the kernel.

I have recently had a couple of minor version upgrades to kernel 4.4 that did not require a restart. This is on Yakkety Yak (16.10) development version. But then I get a systemd update followed by a request to re-start. We win some. We lose some.

Regards.

Ok. That makes sense.
Thank you.
