I upgraded from 15.10 to 16.04. Now the accents stopped working in some programs like gedit 3.18.3 but not in others like Firefox 46.0.

In gedit, I type ' and then o wanting to get ó, but instead I get 'o separately.

I have a keyboard: "Catalan (Spain, with middle-dot L)". In fact, it's an Apple keyboard.

How can I correct the behaviour?

There has been others also talking about missing things in gedit.
See if this helps.

I do not see this behaviour in mate and using pluma as my text editor.

Some more information about the problem:

* It has happens in LibreOffice.
* Independent of which font I choose.
* It only happens when I open a document directly by double-clicking on it. It doesn't happen when I first open the application and then open the document from the "Edit" menu.

So at least I have a workaround.
