I'm newer than a newbie and I'm having trouble with getting the printer drivers installed and the printer working. I've downloaded the printer driversand that's about as far as I've gotten. Terminal is my enemy, but following along here, I can pretty well get it right. BUT - I'm not getting the driversrecognized and/or the drivers in the right location to be recognized. I'm working with ubuntu 14.04 and a Canon MX494 printer. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Keep in mind, although I have Terminal open, doesn't mean I know what's going on. lol Thanks for your time.

Have a look here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/690419/canon-pixma-mx494-driver-close-enough-for-mx492

Which refers to this link for downloading: http://www.canon.co.uk/support/consumer_products/products/fax__multifunctionals/inkjet/pixma_mx_series/pixma_mx494.aspx?type=drivers&language=&os=Linux%20%2864-bit%29

After downloading the Linux driver, you need to download from the same site the "IJ Printer Driver Ver. 5.10 for Linux (Operation guide)"
which contain the installation instructions for various linux distributions (including Ubuntu).
