View Full Version : [UbuntuGnome] Cannot Search For Files In Gnome-Shell Overview 16.04

Hi
I have come back to Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 and am enjoying it.
My only query is that I cannot seem to complete a search of my files from the Gnome-Shell Overview Screen.
I am sure I could do this in older versions by simply typing in the search term, and it would then return the folders that I could then access.

Example would be - Enter term such as Amy Winehouse.
My folder with Amy Winehouse would then be displayed.

Appreciate any help regarding how I can (or indeed confirmation that I cannot) enable this feature.

Many thanks

I don't remember being able to search user files and folders from Gnome-Shell Overview previously but, nevertheless, the search feature in Files (nautilus) is improved.

Open Files and you will see Q at the top of the window.

Click on it and search for Amy, I reckon that she will be there.

You can also search for individual files as well as folders.

Kind regards

Thanks for that tea for one! She is indeed. You are right, the search in Nautilus is excellent.
Since posting I did some more digging and I believe I had been using an old extension previously.
