Ubuntu Desktops and Laptops from Shafetech; Free Ubuntu Disks Available

My name is Ryan DeLaney and I represent Shafetech Systems (http://shafetech.com), a manufacturer of Ubuntu desktops and notebooks. We offer desktops and notebooks with Ubuntu preinstalled and configured with popular applications and settings. To give back to the wonderful Ubuntu community, we are giving away Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu/Edubuntu disks through our YOUbuntu (http://youbuntu.shafetech.com) program. Our highest priority is spreading Ubuntu, and we see this as the best way to do so. Disks should arrive in 1-2 weeks and DVD versions are also available.

Do you have any laptops with a Core 2 Duo coming out anytime soon?

Laptops with Core 2 Duo chips are a very high priority for us right now. At this time, I would say they should be available in four or five weeks. Right now, we are working on having two different models available, which will replace our budget and midrange notebooks.

Also worth mentioning, we will soon offer customers the option of having XGL and Compiz preinstalled at no extra charge. While this is not on our website yet, this is an option when placing a phone order.

Much appreciated. I'm also looking for a laptop sometime in the next month for work. Of course I'll only buy from Linux friendly vendors and that Azure is looking better every minute. :mrgreen:

I did receive my Kubuntu DVD, but it was a bad disc. I got errors when I checked it using the "Check disc for errors" option on the disc and the Windows program CDCheck (http://www.kvipu.com/CDCheck/). May I request another disc because of this problem?

I am very sorry you received a bad disk. To answer your question, of course you may request a new one! If you could tell me if it is a Sony, Fujifilm or printed disk I will figure out which vendor burned it and why it was not verified before shipping.

If you PM me your address, I'll get your disk in the mail tonight.

hmmm...I live in "Down Under" and it's a little sad to find that when you go to sites a lot of them only ship within their countries. I would have really liked Xubuntu too..aw well back to the downloads for me
