Yes, I meant to make a separate post with "Thank you" in it but must have accidentally clicked "edit" instead of "reply".

Anyway, my flavor remains the humble Openbox session of Lubuntu ;)

My friend told me how electricity is measured and I was like Watt!

I finally managed to get rid of that nasty electrical charge I’ve been carrying.
I’m ex-static!

Where do electricians get their supplies?
The Ohm Depot.

What kind of car does an electrician drive?
A Volts-wagon.

This electrician arrives home at 3am.
His wife asks him, “Wire you insulate?”
He replies, “Watt’s it to you? I’m Ohm, aren’t I?”

What do you call a detective electrician?
Sherlock Ohms.

I had no Idea there where so many MATE users, why are there BUSes against unity?
Could it be hardware related?

I had no Idea there where so many MATE users, why the RESISTANCE against unity?
That was exactly what I thought.

As I don't see a large number of posts from MATE users am I right in thinking that they don't have as many problems as users of other Ubuntu flavours?

Or may be they post their problems on their own (https://ubuntu-mate.community/) forum?

Flexibility and choice. Gotta love Linux! My 80+ yr old Mom happily ran LXDE before she died. She would probably run Mate. It wasn't a hardware thing for her - she had a Core i7 with a high-end, CAD, GPU.

Unity didn't work for years inside virtual machines, that was my problem with it. Almost everything I do is virtualized. Plus, I don't have/buy GPUs and the eye candy in Unity just isn't worth it for me. I'm running this "desktop" under KVM, inside a VM, over the network right now. My systems are all reasonably fast, but eye-candy isn't something I like. Don't want to waste the power on it. Plus, compositing DEs were always less stable for me.

I want a system that gets out of my way and uses few resources - that isn't unity, IME. I could list 50 reasons by myself why Unity isn't for me, starting with full-screen apps. Hate those. This VM has 1 vCPU and 1.5G of RAM. Minimal so the system it is on can handle other useful tasks like running a blog, CMS, email server, document server, VPN, slash-clone, and a few other things.

At my LUG (weekly meetings on Sundays), almost everyone new coming from Windows runs Linux Mint. But there are some folks who do run Unity and like it. One of those guys does it simply because most people do use Unity and he wants that "stock" experience.

I always stress that the OS is not the GUI. Swap in what ever GUI you like and be happy. ;)
