The process I used to install Chrome also set up a Google server as a software repository on my system. Because I keep the repository enabled I get updates/upgrade to Google Chrome 64 bit.

I would say that no more steps are needed to upgrade Chrome than the normal steps to install Chrome.

Regards.

Prerequisites are a 64-bit OS.
And an internet connection.
The updates will come with all other Ubuntu updates.

Chrome releases a new version every 6 weeks, which you will get within hours (usually) of that release.
You will also get any patches released in between that time.

I looked at system details. I am running ubuntu 14.04 with a 32 bit OS system. Will the new version 16.04 automatically change it to 64 bit? If not what steps are needed to do that? thx for help

Not mentioned so far is that you need a 64-bit processor (cpu) to use a 64-bit operating system. You may indeed have a 64-bit cpu running your 32-bit operating system, but haven't said. If you have a 32-bit processor instead, you need to use a different browser, such as Firefox.
