Hello.

I've 3 old computers and I need some help to choose one of them to install Ubuntu for "leisure use" (emails, internet, mp3 playing, youtube videos,...).
Basically, the main question is which one has the best performance (knowing that all 3 are far from actual computers, of course):

-Option 1: Desktop CPU. Pentium IV at 3.00Ghz. 3Gb of RAM. GPU ATI Radeon X550. Intel's processor info:
http://ark.intel.com/es-es/products/27508/Intel-Pentium-4-Processor-supporting-HT-Technology-3_00E-GHz-1M-Cache-800-MHz-FSB

-Option 2: Desktop CPU. Celeron E1200 at 1.60Ghz. 2Gb of RAM. GPU unknown. Intel's processor info:
http://ark.intel.com/es-es/products/34440/Intel-Celeron-Processor-E1200-512K-Cache-1_60-GHz-800-MHz-FSB

-Option 3: Laptop Acer Aspire 5738G. Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 at 2.20Ghz. 4Gb of RAM. GPU ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570. 4GB of RAM. Intel's processor info:
http://ark.intel.com/es-es/products/37255/Intel-Core2-Duo-Processor-T6600-2M-Cache-2_20-GHz-800-MHz-FSB

Now I've installed Ubuntu 14.04 64bits in Option 3, and runs almost well. Some problems with actualizations and error messages.
Also installed Ubuntu 14.04 32bits in Option 1, and runs really bad, but perhaps it's only a matter of GPU drivers. I don't know...perhaps someone can help also with that.

That's all. Thank you very much.

Welcome to the Ubuntu Forums :-)

I am rather sure that #3 with a Core 2 Duo processor has most horsepower of these three computers.

It might or might not work better with a proprietary driver for the graphics card.

I suggest that you try a flavour of Ubuntu with a lighter desktop environment than standard Ubuntu. This will improve the quality of playing video.

- Ubuntu MATE and Xubuntu have medium light desktop environments

- Lubuntu has an ultra light desktop environment (the 32-bit version should work also with computers #1 and #2).

Try Ubuntu (Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu, ...) before installing it (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2230389)

X/Lubuntu are better options than Ubuntu. Please see the link in my signature for more information.
