After I choose the partitioning scheme, the installation process clocks at this screen. Please see attached.
I am totally flummoxed as to what is wrong. Is it the installation media? I tried two different disks.
Is it my HDD?

I am installing xubuntu 12.04.4 on a laptop.

Did you check the ISO was ok with the md5sum or the install media with 'Check disk for defects'? Is it a dual-boot? Do you have a wireless USB dongle plugged in (unplug it)?

Also, and nothing to do with your issue, although 12.04 LTS is still supported, wouldn't you be better going for 14.04 LTS? That is supported until 2017 and gives you the option of upgrading to 16.04 directly anytime until 2019. Going for 12.04 gives you a year to get to 14.04 and then 16.04 when you're ready but sometime prior to 2019.

But you may have good reasons for wanting to use 12.04 ...

Hi,
This is too old a device to install 14.
Anyway I saw from another forum that someone having a similar problem removed their internal wireless card (broadcomm)
I too did the same and I was able to ocmplete the successful insall. I have an external USB WiFi dongle.
