I have a very weird issue with the X server environment under ubuntu. Im running an R9 280x using the fglxr AMD drivers and on boot up everything is fine, but after some time (its random and I'm not sure its connected with heavy GPU load or not) the screen will all of a suddenly start refreshing every 3 seconds or so.

Everything still works fine, its just that the screen refreshes really slowly. At first only a reboot would fix this, but then I figured out going into the display settings and changing the resolution temporarily would fix this. I guess changing screen resolution either resets x server in some way, or reset whatever fault is going on in the GPU.

Has anyone come across this issue and know of any solution?

At the very least whats a minimum command I can issue that would reset the display, similar to how changing the resolution works for temporarily fixing this issue. (anything not involving restarting x server and losing the state of my desktop environment/running x programs).
