Hello. I am trying to install qt-sdk but it's telling me I have unmet dependencies. Is there any way to fix this? I am running Ubuntu 14.04.4. If you ask me to do something, please give some instructions as I don't know much about Ubuntu.

$ sudo apt-get install qt-sdk

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
qt-sdk : Depends: libqt4-opengl-dev but it is not going to be installed
unity-control-center : Depends: libcheese-gtk23 (>= 3.4.0) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libcheese7 (>= 3.0.1) but it is not going to be installed
E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.

sudo apt-get -f install

That may clear it.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AptGet/Howto#Maintenance_commands

Are you running third party apps? This is a major cause of conflicts.

ls /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*.list

Edit
And on a side note

I installed qt-sdk without issue on Mate 16.04. A 900MB install :) This is not much help with someone running Ubuntu 14.04, just thought you may like to know.

Ran the command but nothing changed. Still giving me the same result.

Did the first command show any errors?

The second command will list all third party software. Please post this.

Thanks

Are all ppa's in use? If not, remove unused ppa(s). For the gui..

software-properties-gtk

Also check the regular sources list for any thing outside the ubuntu trusty sources.

cat /etc/apt/sources.list

You can also run "apt check" for broken dependencies.

sudo apt-get check

I suspect a conflict with a third party source, something I cannot test further on this end.

All the PPAs are in use, if by in use you mean the box next to each one is checked.

Unless your building packages from source code, all deb-scr sources can be unchecked.

All the PPAs are in use, if by in use you mean the box next to each one is checked.

Yes if you uncheck a ppa it will be disabled and no longer updated, but can be again activated by checking the box. So all ppa's are active, but do you use all of them?

Spencer_Thompson

I use pretty much all of them, but I don't know what the Canonical Partners or Independent ppa's are. I unchecked the Source Code like you suggested.

I don't know what the Canonical Partners or Independent ppa's are

http://partners.ubuntu.com/programmes
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu

It's ok to have them checked.

You can try aptitude, it could give you some dependency options.

Typing y (or simply pressing enter) will accept the proposed solution. Typing n will display the “next best” solution.

As with the main command-line prompt, you can perform a number of additional actions, including manually altering the states of packages, from the dependency resolution prompt. Type ? to see a complete list.

Typing q will abort the automatic resolver and allow you to resolve the dependencies manually.

I missed this, its getting late :)

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libgl1-mesa-dev : Depends: mesa-common-dev (= 10.1.3-0ubuntu0.6) but 11.2+gallium-nine~git1602220800.9e204a~gd~t is installed.

That would be your PPA. Its the problem.
