View Full Version : Boot to login screen after update

Well, my desktop machine has been in storage for the better part of a year and half as I've been overseas. Got it running again Saturday, and updated from Studio 12.04 to 14.04. Today, it gave me notice that there were updates available again, so I let it run. Now it fails to start X, and takes me to a command line login screen. "startx" looks like it's trying, then knocks me back to the CL.
I seem to remember this happened before, but it's been so long since I've been able to run my Linux box that I can't recall what the fix was, and a quick search here led me to a thread that was similar, but didn't quite have my same issue. I've tried using the "nomodeset" command in GRUB, but to be honest, I'm not sure I'm applying it correctly; like I said, it's been a while.
Any and all help is appreciated, and thanks in advance.
