View Full Version : [SOLVED] 14.04 LTS cannot access repositories for updating...

Hello.

I have had very good success with using the Software Updater, but today is a different story. I receive a message that there are updates, but it will not update, and/or cannot download from the repository. I'm told to check my connection. My internet connection is working fine.

So, I went to a terminal windows, and tried to update the software. Did not work. I copied the information, and I hope that someone can lend me some of their support.

Thank you.

David

Does executing these commands help?
Run one line at a time

cd /var/lib/apt
sudo mv lists lists.old
sudo mkdir -p lists/partial
sudo apt-get update

This will rebuild the cache.

runrickus,

Thank you! The update went through smoothly, so I entered sudo apt-get upgrade.

A lot was installed, but I received a message saying that fonts weren't installed. Would you have some guidance for me on that? Again, thank you!!

I do not remember seeing any prompt asking me to accept the fonts.

Try to install the meta again

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
Then just watch for the licence Agreement..
In the terminal to navigate use the Tab key to select and enter to accept.
If that fails then do this:

sudo apt-get purge ttf-mscorefonts-installer
sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer

For those who do not know, if we install Ubuntu Restricted Extras from the Software Centre we will need to confirm our acceptance of the Microsoft End User Licence Agreement (EULA) for the installation of Microsoft TrueType fonts.

The dialog that appears may appear behind the software centre window. We will not see it unless we move the software centre window to one side. It will seem as if the installation has stalled.

This behaviour has caught me out a few times even though I know it is going to happen.

Regards.

Another thing I noticed with the Microsoft TrueType fonts is the default is to NOT accept so you need to hit the tab key to agree or highlight OK.
