Does anyone know of any manufacturers producing barebones laptops? (ie: no storage, memory or OS)

Everything laptop I found that I liked had ridiculously high prices for memory and HDD and I'd much rather choose those parts myself. Also I don't want to pay for a windows license that will serve no purpose.

A few years ago I had a Compal and it was an amazing gaming laptop.

Compal has nothing to do with Campaq (bought by HP years ago), except for the fact they most likely were the OEM for some Compaq models (and HP, Dell, etc.).

There's no point in going to their corporate website above either, they don't do B2C. I was able to buy one with the help of a local store that was using Compal barebones as the base for their own "brand". Of course, I bought all the other components from the store (CPU, RAM, HDD and an optional Bluetooth module). It was back in 2006-7 and it saved me some 500-700€ compared to the major brands. Do NOT expect such a difference, not even close, in this day and age.
