Hi all I have a new installation of 64bit 14.04 (installed from USB key) and it works fine apart from the complete lack of a screensaver, it goes from working to screen shutdown without anything in between and search as I will I can't find anywhere to turn on or even install a screensaver :( any ideas anyone? Thanks

Unless you still have an old CRT monitor, screensavers don't really do anything practical these days and is the likely reason they were removed from current Ubuntu packages. However, I believe Xubuntu and/or Lubuntu still have screensavers by default if you really need one.

There does appear to be a way to add them to vanilla Ubuntu, but I haven't tried it so cannot attest to how well it works...

Ah so it has been removed, reason I was puzzled before this installation I had the 32bit version and that had a screensaver, just wondered where it had gone :)

Did you try to use XScreensaver?

sudo apt-get install xscreensaver
