What would be the PPA that I would need to add to software sources listing so that my BACKUPPC application would be constantly kept up to the most recent version ???

Thanks.

https://launchpad.net/~blueyed/+archive/ubuntu/ppa takes you as far as Utopic, but I can't find anything for later versions, nor do I know anything about backuppc.

I just use rsync for my home to an external HDD and forget about anything else as it is so quick to reinstall the OS itself should I need to and everything important to me is in my home.

Why do you think you need a PPA to keep it updated? The backuppc package is under active development: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/backuppc

So are you saying that this application is not ready for prime time (if not, then why is it in the package manager) ? It would seem to me that it is not, since I can not get it to work because it aborts the backup just about as soon as it starts due to some type of error regarding "tar".

Am looking for a backup solution that will WORK not only on local machine but also to backup various machines/OS types on a local area network.

Is there such an animal for Linux ?

Thanks.

If you post the error in full, someone could probably help you with it.

I have uninstalled the backuppc application because I could not get it to function but the error was something on this order:

tar exited with error 512 status localhost

I have researched but have yet to find an answer that would not require me to be a Linux programmer.

Thanks.
