I have an old, old Dell LATITUDE D600 laptop.
20GB hard drive and 512RAM
Intel pentium M - processor 1.60GHz
MOBILITY RADEON 9000
Laptop is brand new with Win XP, didn't even have any of
the Windows updates on it.
I am not sure what 'flavor' of linux to install.
It has 2 USB ports, so I can use flash drive to run.
I tried Puppy Slacko and it ran good but I noticed it
was KDE and I haven't had much luck with KDE on any
of my desktops over the years. I also tried Tahr 6.0.2 and
that was kind of 'lagging' a little. These were run as 'live'.
I am open to suggestions please on what to install for
just basic internet surfing and email.
Thanks

You can use Chromium

Chromium OS as mentioned above is an option (and your thread will probably attract lots of other suggestions), another is an alternate Lubuntu (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Alternate_ISO).

With 512 MB of memory you will face some limitation, for example you may not be able to run all live distros.

Adding to the list of possible light-weight distros, that are worth trying:

Puppy linux - Wary Puppy or Tahrpup,
LXLE - the version based on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS,
ToriOS - not released yet, but already quite functional

Thank you so much! Never heard of ToriOS but I put it on DVD and
popped it in, after much struggle getting DVD tray open.
Booted right up and it was the easiest install I have ever dealt with!!
Now to get some kind of wifi 'dongle' as there is no wifi card in the machine.
Thank you so much.
