Why not make a page with donations more visible ,and also with the names of donors, as linux mint or ubuntu mate?
I think this would encourage donations.

There are many ways to donate. Help on the forum, testing, bug reports, bug fixes, etc. I don't think emphasizing monetary donations would be productive.

You also have to consider the philosophy behind Ubuntu.


Linux was already established as an enterprise server platform in 2004, but free software was not a part of everyday life for most computer users. That’s why Mark Shuttleworth gathered a small team of developers from one of the most established Linux projects — Debian — and set out to create an easy-to-use Linux desktop: Ubuntu.


The vision for Ubuntu is part social and part economic: free software, available to everybody on the same terms, and funded through a portfolio of services provided by Canonical.

That said - they DO ask for donations now and have done for some while. So Canonical HAVE chosen to ask for people to divvy up - it's just only shown when someone goes to the download page as well you know.

They don't just hand it out, though. You have to justify it and go through an application process.

I got a piece of hardware to test because it seemed problematic based on the number of questions posed here and on AU. I had to agree to publish my results, which I did in a pretty long blog article.

All in all the donations for Community use are a positive thing in my opinion, just in case anyone thinks I mean different.

I agree with you. I like contribute to the improvement of Ubuntu, sometimes also with donations. Unfortunately downloading Ubuntu from italian or french site, there are no requests to make a donation.
