Hi all -
I seem to be having some major issues after I installed Ubuntu Gnome 15.10 on my Dell XPS 8700 with 4th Gen i7 and Nvidia GTX 645. So far the list includes I am unable to open system settings, either through command line by running gnome-control-center (it just hangs and does nothing) nor by going to the normal system menu's.
mitch@mitch-XPS-8700:~$ sudo gnome-control-center
[sudo] password for mitch:
** (gnome-control-center.real:2416): WARNING **: Ignoring launcher gufw (missing desktop file)
** (gnome-control-center.real:2416): WARNING **: Ignoring launcher landscape-client-settings (missing desktop file)
** (gnome-control-center.real:2416): WARNING **: Ignoring launcher language-selector (missing desktop file)
** (gnome-control-center.real:2416): WARNING **: Ignoring launcher ubuntuone-installer (missing desktop file)
----EDIT----
running gnome-control-center without sudo/root gives this error:
mitch@mitch-XPS-8700:~$ gnome-control-center
Failed to register: Timeout was reached
Also,
I am unable to restart my computer by command line or by GUI menu's. When I enter init 6 it goes to reboot but the PC never actually reboots. It goes to a black screen and does nothing until I hard shut it down.
What I've done so far:
I have tried doing a apt-getupdate && apt-get upgrade and then dist-upgrade but still have these issues
I have gone into Additional Drivers and selected the proprietary drivers needed for Nvidia and also noticed there is a section showing "Unknown: Unknown" which has Using processor microcode firmware for Intel CPU's from intel-microcode checked beneath it.
Lastly I have noticed that the system takes about 3 minutes to boot up, which doesn't seem quite right as it has an i7 and 16gb of ram.
Any help or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
