I have following problem with graphic drivers:

$ lspci | grep VGA
00:0d.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation C61 [GeForce 6100 nForce 400] (rev a2)

Default nouveau driver messes up dash launcher. Basically clicking on the dash icon starts glitching desktop http://i.imgur.com/3REzhd2.jpg, eventually broking the screen altogether and freezing (not even unable to switch to another tty). Only hard reset works.

When I get nvidia-304 from additional drivers, it is even worse. Basically the whole desktop freezes like this http://i.imgur.com/Bs938RE.jpg . The only way is to reboot form another tty.

How should go about solving either driver?

I had to drop back to Lubuntu after some 14.04 update (or get rid of the unity desktop) on my older laptop with an Nvidia Geforce go 6150.

I've just tried disabling dash blur in unity-tweak-tool, but it didn't really help. Has anyone encountered similar problem?
