xfce4-session 4.10.1 (Xfce 4.10)
Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS

I have a wastebasket icon on the panel which shows the wastebasket is empty when it has items in it.

If I then send a file to it, it shows items in the wastebasket.

If I restart the system the icon shows the wastebasket is empty.

So, really I never know whether there is anything in the wastebasket or not therefore the icon is redundant!

I read that way back there was a wastebasket fix but it does not appear to be included in my version of xubuntu and I cannot find an 'after market' fix either.

Are there any suggestions other that upgrading either Xfce and/or xubuntu?

There is a bug for this problem at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunar/+bug/880533 which shows that thunar 1.6.10 has overcome this.

I am still using Xubuntu 14.04 but have added the ppa for XFCE 4.12 from https://launchpad.net/~xubuntu-dev/+archive/ubuntu/xfce-4.12?field.series_filter=trusty and it all seems to be fine in this which does use thunar 1.6.10.

Thank you.

Prior to upgrading Xfc the wastebasket had files but showed empty. After the upgrade and restart it shows the files in it. :p

Love the panel :p

Do you use the 'extras'?

One niggle - Firefox does not open pages which were being viewed before closing or restarting.
