Are there any negative ramifications to running a fresh install of ubuntu onto a hard drive on one computer, and then transplanting that hard drive immediately to another computer to be run permanently?

I do it all the time or at least multiple times.
Just have to be similar Specs IE AMD to AMD Intel to Intel 64bit yada yada.
Video cards also Nvidia, ATI This is one can be a show stopper, But you can uninstall and install proper Drivers.
But I'm sure you get the meaning.
Happy Swapping.

I'd tend to agree with runrickus. The only other possbile problems that comes to mind is if one of the drives had multiple hard drives. That might result in a boot problem but otherwise, it's usually having installed proprietary drivers on the first machine which has different hardware.

If a new UEFI system, it may be a bit more to get it booting correctly.

Boot-Repair probably would fix it.
Boot Repair -Also handles LVM, GPT, separate /boot and UEFI dual boot.:
Precise, Trusty, Vivid, & Utopic all should work now with current ppa

+1 I keep forgetting about those puters with all that stuff built in.
Sheese I guess for me me out of sight out of mind rings loud.
I tend to avoid those machines for myself, But do work on them for others.
Thanks oldfred:D as this could be a challenge.
